Deposit THORIUM VEINS IN THIS AREA ARE ONE OF FOUR ENVIRONMENTS OF TH OCCURRENCE KNOWN IN THE POWDERHORN-IRON HILL AREA AND ARE PROBABLY RELATED TO EMPLACEMENT OF LATE PRECAMBRIAN SYENITES NORTH AND WEST OF IRON HILL AND OF YOUNGER LATE PRECAMBRIAN OR CAMBRIAN CARBONATITES AT IRON HILL. DEPOSIT LIES WITHIN MAJOR COMPOSITE SYENITE BODY IN AREA. MOST OF INTRUSION IS AUGITE SYENITE, BUT MELASYENITE FORMS OUTER RIM ON NE EDGE, AND LEUCOSYENITE LENS MAPPED WITHIN AUGITE SYENITE. ON SOUTHERN PERIPHERY OF SYENITE IS OLDER LEUCOGRANITE REMNANTS THAT CUT TWO PRINCIPAL FACIES OF DUBOIS GREENSTONE, WHOSE FOLIATION TRENDS GENERALLY N 30 E, VERTICAL. SOUTHERN QUARTZ VEIN TRENDS N 7 W; NORTHERN QUARTZ VEIN TRENDS N 85 E, 85 SE.
