Comments on the commodity information

  • MINERALIZATION CONFINED TO NORTHERN LIMB OF A FOLDED AND HIGHLY SILICEOUS CONTACT OF THE "CONSORT BAR" SYNCLINORIUM BETWEEN AMPHIBOLE SCHISTS AND HORNFELS AND SODA TRACHYTE (FIG TREE SERIES). SMALL QUANTITIES PT AND AG RECOVERED BUT UNIMPORTANT IN SOUTH AFRICA TERMS. PT IS AN IMPURITY IN GOLD AND IS RECOVERED AT THE RAND REFINERY AS A CONSEQUENCE OF THE PURIFICATION PROCESS.

Geologic structures

Type of structure Regional
Structure description All Described Systems, Series And Included Sediments And Intrusives Are Regionally Severely Deformed, Closely Folded And Altered
Type of structure Local
Structure description Folds, Faults And Fractures Have Produced Complex Structures, Making Stratigraphic Evaluations Difficult. Underlying And Surrounding Intrusive Granites Massive.

Ore body information

  • General form LINEAR AND POD/LENS
    Strike E - W
    Dip 45 DEG. S.
    Thickness 1.8M
    Depth to bottom 1375M

Controls for ore emplacement

  • Gentle Uplift Of Continental Mass, Followed By Diastrophism Regional North Into Rhodesia. Swaziland System Is Thus Highly Folded, Fractured And Faulted Locally.

Comments on the geologic information

  • LOCAL AND REGIONAL INTRUSIVE GRANITE OCCURRENCES ARE NOT ADEQUATELY DEFINED BY NAME, ONE SOURCE REFERS TO GRANITE EXPOSURES AS NELSPRUIT GRANITE IN VICINITY OF MINE AND NOTES THAT PEGMATITES, BELIEVED TO BE RELATED TO THE NELSPRUIT GRANITE, CUT THE OREBODIES TO SUGGEST THAT MINERALIZATION PREDATES THIS GRANITE.

Comments on development

  • WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A TWO-YEAR PERIOD ( 1914 - 1915 ) THIS MINE HAS OPERATED CONTINUOUSLY SINCE 1895 , UNDER VARIOUS OWNERS. (SEE, ALSO MINERAL ECONOMICS FACTORS.) ; MILL.CAP: 0.1 MIL. MET. T/YR. ; ECON.COM: A SMALL PRODUCER BY SOUTH AFRICAN STANDARDS, BUT ECONOMICALLY STABLE AND WITH A LONG-LIFE OUTLOOK. THIS MINE PROCESSES ITS OWN ORE PLUS FLOTATION AND GRAVITY CONCENTRATES FROM THE SHEBA AND AGNES MINES (OF EASTERN TRANSVAAL CONSOLIDATED MINES, LIMITED).

Deposit STRIKE AND DIP REFER TO NORTH LIMB OF MAJOR SYNCLINORIUM EXISTING IN THE MINE AREA, AND FROM WHICH IMPORTANT ORE RECOVERIES HAVE BEEN OBTAINED (MINERALIZATION CONFINED TO SHEARED SCHISTS BELOW THE SILICIFIED CONTACT ZONE KNOWN AS THE "CONSORT BAR". MAX THICKNESS REFERS TO MINERALIZED ZONES (VARIABLE FROM A FEW CENTIMETERS TO ABOUT 1.8 METERS IN THICKNESS). DEPTH TO BOTTOM REFERS TO DEPTH OF DEEPEST WORKINGS TO DATE. INTENSIVE FOLDING WITHIN SYNCLINORIUM AND POST MINERALIZATION FAULTING COMBINE TO COMPLICATE DEVELOPMENT, MINING AND VENTILATION.
