Comments on the geologic information

  • GEOLOGY BY BARNES AND OTHERS (1967) AND ROMER (1974). IF CHERT CONGLOMERATE IS PRESENT, THIS WOULD BE THE NOCONA FORMATION. IF THIS BED CORRELATES WITH THE RYAN SANDSTONE AND THERE IS NO CHERT CONGLOMERATE, THE ROCK WOULD BE THE PETROLIA FORMATION.

Deposit THE ESCARPMENT TO THE E. AND SE SHOULD BE EXAMINED FOR COPPER MINERALS.
Deposit CUMMINS (1893, P. 232) IS REFERENCE. COPPER MINERALS OCCUR ABOUT 3 MI SE OF BELCHER ON THE ROAD LEADING TO MONTAGUE NEAR THE TOP OF A HILL IN SANDSTONE, SHALE, AND MUDSTONE CONGLOMERATE LIKE THAT 1 MI SE OF THE ROCK ISLAND BRIDGE. STROUD AND OTHERS (1970, P. 16) MENTION COPPER MINERALS ALONG A SMALL STREAM NEAR BELCHERVILLE. CUMMINS (1891, P. 509) MENTIONED THAT A SMALL DEPOSIT OF COPPER MINERALS WAS FOUND IN NORTHERN MONTAGUE COUNTY, BUT THERE WAS NO ATTEMPT TO DEVELOP IT.
