Comments on the geologic information

  • GEOL.DESC: BED OF MASSIVE, MAGANIFEROUS META-CHERT; RECRYSTALLIZED TO FINE GRAINED GREY QUARTZITE AND CUT BY NARROW QUARTZ VEINLETS. IT IS PENETRATED BY MANGANESE OXIDES AND CONTAINS POCKETS 3 TO 4 INCHES WIDE OF HIGH GRADE ORE. THE MASSIVE METACHERT IS ENCLOSED IN A BELT OF RHYTHEMICALLY BEDDED WHITE TO GREY META-CHERT; 50 TO 100 FT. WIDE; 500' LONG. THE BEDDED METACHERT OCCURS WITH BEDS 1/2 TO 2 IN. THICK; WITH THIN SHALE PARTINGS. SOME RHODOCROSITE WAS FOUND ON DUMP.

Comments on the production information

  • THE GENERAL RUN OF THE BED IS PROBABLY FAIRLY LOW GRADE, PERHAPS RUNNING 20 PERCENT MANGANESE. SOME FRAGMENTS ON ONE OF THE DUMPS CONSISTS OF BROWN TO PINK RHODOCHROSITE STAINED WITH BLACK OXIDES; NO OTHER UNOXIDIZED MANGANESE MINERALS WERE NOTED. THE BED OF ORE EXPOSED IS RATHER SMALL.
