| Deposit | ALTERED ROCK ON DUMP DISPLAYS A POROUS CLAY-ALTERED MATRIX CONTAINING ALTERED FELDSPAR AND FRESH BIOTITE PHENOCRYSTS IN ADDITION TO RHYOLITIC-LATITIC VOLCANIC ROCK FRAGMENTS. SAMPLE 1708 IS FROM THE DUMP AND CONSISTS OF A MAROON-COLORED RHYOLITE OR LATITE WITH SANIDINE AND K-FELD SPAR PHENOCRYSTS SHOWING SOME EFFECTS OF SILICIFICATION AND/OR KAOLINITIZATION. ALSO THE ROCKS CONTAIN SMALL VUGS ENCRUSTED WITH QUARTZ AND IRON OXIDES THE ROCKS ARE IRON-STAINED, SHOW SOME GOSSANY COATINGS AND VUG FILLINGS AND HAVE QUARTZ-FILLED VEINLETS OR CRACKS. THERE IS NO OBVIOUS MINERALIZATION ON DUMP BUT, AS MENTIONED, VOLCANIC ROCKS SHOW ALTERATION EFFECTS, IE SILICIFICATION, IRON-STAINING, BLEACHING. IRON OXIDES ARE POSSIBLY AFTER OXIDIZED PYRITE |
