Comments on development

  • DURING THE 1890'S A 21 M (70 FT) SHAFT WAS SUNK, BUT NO HIGH-GRADE SULFIDES WERE FOUND AND LITTTE MORE DEVELOPMENT WORK OCCURRED. IN 1950, THE BUCKINGHAM MINERAL SYNDICATE, INC., TEASED THE LAND AROUND THE NEW CANTON MINES, RAN A RESISTIVITY SURVEY AND BASED ON THE RESULTS SEVERAL DRILL HOLES WERE DRILLED BY THE MATHESON CORPORATION. THE DRILL HOLES WERE PROBABLY NOT BUT DOWN AT THE HUDGINS PROSPECT. IN 1955, THE VIRGINIA MINING CORP. RAN GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS OVER THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE TREND. AS A RESULT OF MAGNETIC AND SELF-POTENTIAL SURVEYS, AN ANOMALY WAS OUTLINED AND ELEVEN HOLES WERE DRILLED IN THE VICINITY OF THE HUDGINS MINE. NO OTHER DEVELOPMENT WORK HAS OCCURRED.
