Comments on the workings information

  • THE YELLOW SPRINGS TUNNEL WAS DRIVEN ON THE LOWER WEST SLOPE OF A RIDGE OF LITTLE SLUICE MOUNTAIN THROUGH, AT LEAST IN PART, YELLOW CLAY AND SANDSTONE. ANOTHER TUNNEL AND MORE THAN A DOZEN PITS AND SHAFTS WERE SUNK AT DIFFERENT PLACES ALONG THE RIDGE TO THE NORTHEAST DURING PROSPECTING. THE YELLOW SPRINGS TUNNEL WAS 122 M (400 FT) LONG AND TRENDED S 80 DEG E, BUT IS NOW CAVED. IN 1982, 2 CAVED TUNNELS, AT LEAST 30 CAVED PITS AND SHAFTS, AND DUMPS WERE SEEN. ABUNDANT IRON ORE WAS SEEN ON THE DUMPS AROUND THE WORKINGS.

Comments on development

  • PROSPECTING OCCURRED AROUND 1892 IN SEARCH OF IRON ORE ON A RIDGE OR FOOT HILL OF LITTLE SLUICE MOUNTAIN.
