  • PERIDOTITE WAS COMPLETELY REMOVED THERE. THE COMPOSITION AND RELATIONSHIPS OF THE ASBESTOS IS UNKNOWN. A FEW LOOSE BLOCKS ON THE DUMP INDICATE THE BODY WAS IN PART ALTERED DUNITE THAT CONTAINED NUMEROUS CROSS-FIBER VEINS OF ASBESTOS. COUNTRY ROCK IS COARSE GRAINED QUARTZ-BIOTITE GNEISS THAT CONTAIN PODS AND STRINGERS OF PEGMATITE. IT STRIKES N 15 E AND DIPS 70 NW. THE PEPIDOTITE WAS CONFORMABLE TO THE FOLIATION OF THE GNEISS.

  • ORE RECOVERED FROM OPEN CUT ABOUT 200 FEET LONG, 175 TO 200 FEET WIDE AND 70 FEET DEEP. THE LONG DIMENTIONS IS NORTHEAST-SOUTHWEST. A DEEP DRAINAGE DITCH WAS CUT AT NORTHEAST END. MOST OF WASTE DUMPED ON SOUTHEAST SIDE OF THE DRAINAGE DITCH.

  • DEPOSIT WORKED BY POWHATAN MINING CO. IN 1956 AND 1957. DURING THE PROCESS OF MINING THE ENTIRE PERIDOTITE BODY WAS REMOVED.
