| Deposit | THIS MINE IS ON THE PROPERTY OF AUGUSTINE WASHINGTON, FATHER OF GEORGE WASHINGTON. IRON WAS MINED FROM GOSSAN FROM 1727 TO 1753. THE FURNACE WAS ABANDONED IN 1753, BUT NOT FOR WANT OF ORE, AS THE MINE WAS CONSIDERED CAPABLE OF SUPPLYING ANOTHER FURNACE IN REVOLUTIONARY WAR TIME.
