Comments on the geologic information

  • CONTINENTAL PLATFORM DISRUPTED BY EXTENSIVE CENOZOIC VULCANISM AND BASIN AND RANGE DEFORMATION. PRINCIPAL ROCKS OF THE DISTRICT ARE ANDESITE BRECCIAS AND ANDESITE FLOWS. MAJOR FAULTS OF THE REGION FOLLOW A GENERAL NORTHWEST STRIKE BUT SOME NORTHEAST STRIKING CROSS FAULTS ARE PRESENT. SOUTHWEST OF THE DISTRICT, COOKS RANGE, A LARGE INTRUDED AND FAULTED MASS OF PRECAMBRIAN, PALEOZOIC AND MESOZOIC ROCKS RISES ABOVE THE GENERAL LEVEL OF TERTIARY FLOWS AND PYROCLASTICS. A WIDE BELT OF TERTIARY FANGLOMERATES EXTENDS FROM NORTHWEST OF THE DISTRICT SOUTHWARD AND SEPARATES THE DISTRICT FROM COOKS RANGE. TO THE NORTHEAST, AT LAKE VALLEY, A LARGE FAULT HAS RAISED PALEOZOIC ROCKS UP TO THE LEVEL OF SURROUNDING VOLCANIC ROCKS. SOUTHEAST OF THE DISTRICT IS A LARGE AREA OF BOLSON PLAINS. ORE DEPOSITS OF THE DISTRICT ARE IN VEINS OCCURRING BETWEEN WELL-DEFINED WALLS OF ANDESITE, IN BRECCIATED ANDESITE AND IN ALTERATION ZONES ALONG FRACTURES. MINERALIZATION IS PRINCIPALLY IN OPEN SPACE FILLING WITH
  • MINOR REPLACEMENT.
