Comments on development

  • THE CLINCHFIELD SAND AND FELDSPAR CORPORATION LEASED ALL THE HOLDINGS OF THE CHEROKEE CHEMICAL COMPANY IN THE EARLY 1930'S AFTER THE CRASH AND FOLLOWING DEPRESSION FORCED BANKRUPTCY ON THE CHEROKEE CHEMICAL COMPANY. THIS UNNAMED MINE WAS PROBABLY INITIATED BY THE CLINCHFIELD SAND AND FELDSPAR CORPORATION. IN 1943 MINING DISCONTINUED AND THE PLANT WAS USED TO GRIND BARITE ORE FROM TENNESSEE. IN 1949, INDUSTRIAL MINERALS, INC. BOUGHT THE CHEROKEE CHEMICAL COMPANY'S HOLDINGS. BARITE WAS MINED UNTIL 1966.
