  • OLD GRATZ MINE WAS DEVELOPED WITH THREE SHAFTS: 380, 70 AND 83 FEET DEEP. AT THE 100 FOOT LEVEL A DRIFT WAS RUN 1040 FEET TO THE NORTH, AND AT THE 200 FOOT LEVEL A 100 FOOT DRIFT TO THE NORTH. IN THE SHAFTS THE VEIN IS 2 TO 4 FEET WIDE FOR 250 FEET, AND AT THE BOTTOM OF THE 380 FOOT SHAFT THE VEIN IS REPORTED AS 57 INCHES WIDE.

Deposit ABOUT 1,500 TO 2,000 FEET NORTH OF THE OLD GRATZ MINE, ALONG THE GRATZ LEAD VEIN, SYSTEMATIC MINING AND MILLING OPERATIONS BY THE TWIN VALLEY MINING COMPANY HAVE TAKEN PLACE. TWO SHAFTS HAVE BEEN SUNK ON THE VEIN, ONE TO A DEPTH OF 75 FEET AND THE OTHER TO 150 FEET. A 150 TON MILL DESIGNED TO SEPARATE THE GALENA, SPHALERITE AND GANGUE MINERALS WAS BUILT NEAR THE RIVER IN 1940. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT
