Comments on the geologic information

  • FOLDING; SRPN + CRMT; CHROMITE OCCURS IN SCHLIEREN, MASSIVE LENSES, DISSEMINATED FORM, AND AS SHEET-LIKE SUBPARALLEL BODIES IN 6 STRATIGRAPHIC LEVELS IN THE SUKINDA MASSIF, A LAYERED ULTRAMAFIC STOCK WHICH STRIKES ENE. THE MASSIF IS INTRUDED INTO A QUARTZITE MEMBER OF AN IRON FORMATION AND CONSISTS OF AN OLDER, CHROMIUM-RICH (1250 M) AND A YOUNGER, CHROMIUM-POOR (450 M) SEQUENCE. THE REGION IS FOLDED AND FORMS A LARGE-SW-PLUNGING SYNCLINE. AT KEONJHAR, THE LAYERED AND ELONGATED ORE BODY IS 3 KM LONG AND 600 M WIDE. GRAIN SIZE OF CHROMITE DECREASES FROM TOP TO BOTTOM ALONG WITH A DECREASE IN CR2O3 AND MGO. PGE CHEMISTRY IS SIMILAR TO PODIFORM-TYPE DEPOSITS.

Economic information about the deposit and operations

Development status Producer
Commodity type Non-metallic
Deposit size Small
Significant No

Comments on the production information

  • PRODUCTION AVERAGE OF 800 T/MONTH.
  • PA1: PRODUCTION FOR 2 MINES IN KEONJHAR DISTRICT. NEAREST LOADING STATION IS JAJPUR ROAD. FACOR'S PRODUCTION DIPPED TO 50,000 MT IN 1981 FROM 63,000 MT IN 1980, BUT ITS 6 MINES ACCOUNT FOR 15% OF THE COUNTRY'S PRODUCTION. CUMULATIVE PRODUCTION DATA REPORTED AS STATE TOTALS FOR BHIMTANAGAR MINE (CUTTACK DISTRICT).

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • RR9: IDENTIFIED RESOURCES FOR KEONJHAR DISTRICT

Comments on development

  • NON-GEOLOGIC CONSTRAINTS ON DEVELOPMENT OR EXPANSION IN 1-5 YRS. ( GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS; X ;GOVERNMENT MARKETING POLICIES CONTROL CHROMIUM MINING AND BAN THE EXPORT OF HIGH-GRADE LUMP ORES.). ORES HERE CONTAIN HIGH CR2O3 AND SIO2; USED FOR CHEMICAL AND REFRACTORY PURPOSES; CR/FE = 2.5-3.6:1.
