Deposit DIAMONDS OCCUR IN PLACERS ALONG STREAMS THAT DRAIN THE FLAT-LYING QUARTZITE AND CONGLOMERATE BEDS EAST OF SANTO INACIO. THREE TYPES OF DIAMONDS ARE RECOGNIZED: PALE YELLOW, CARBONADO, AND COLORLESS. THE DIAMONDS WERE RELEASED BY THE WEATHERING OF PALEO-PLACER DEPOSITS WITHIN THE QUARTZITES AND PUDDING-STONE CONGLOMERATE. THE ALLUVIAL DIAMOND WORKS EXTEND FROM THE NORTH EDGE OF SANTO INACIO ALONG A NORTHEAST-TRENDING FRACTURE FOR MORE THAN HALF A KILOMETER. ANOTHER DEPOSIT IS ACTIVELY WORKED 10 KM EAST OF THE TOWN AND IS IN A FAULT VALLEY THAT TRENDS N60W FOR OVER 14 KM. DIAMONDS OCCUR IN THE HIGH RUGGED CONGLOMERATE HILLS NORTHEAST OF TOWN, BUT THERE IS NO WATER FOR RECOVERING THE DIAMONDS EXCEPT DURING THE SHORT RAINY SEASON. THERE IS AN APPRECIABLE AMOUNT OF CHEMICAL OR BIOGENIC SULFUR NEAR THE DIAMOND WORKINGS. THE SULFUR IS A CEMENTING MATRIX IN THE CONGLOMERATE. J.B. POMERENE ESTIMATED THAT THE SULFUR DEPOSITS WAS 0.5 TO 1 M THICK, HAD AN AVERAGE WIDTH OF 3 M, AND A
Deposit LENGTH OF ABOUT 500 M. THESE AVERAGE DIMENSIONS GIVE A VOLUME OF 1000 CUBIC METERS AT 11% S OR 200 METRIC TONS OF CONTAINED SULFUR. THE MINE TAILINGS CONTAIN NO HEAVY MINERALS.
Deposit THIS RECORD CONTAINS INFORMATION FROM MRDS RECORDS NO. W002372 AND W002350 WHICH WERE DUPLICATE RECORDS FOR THIS SITE AND HAVE BEEN DELETED FROM MRDS.
