  • HOSTED IN CALAVERAS SERIES - L. ; GEOL.DESC: MANGANESE ORE VEIN STRIKES N 45 W, DIPS 60 TO 70 S.W., AND IS CONFINED TO A RED CHERT BED. ORE IS MOSTLY PSILOMELANE, SOME PYROLUSITE AND WAD. DARK, RED, DENSE CHERT HAS SMALL PATCHES AND VEINLETS OF QUARTZ, AND OF MANGANESE OXIDES. ORE VEIN AVERAGES 6 FT. IN WIDTH. SOME FAULT MOVEMENT APPEARS TO HAVE OCCURRED ACROSS THE VEIN. A QUARTZ-SERICITE SCHIST IS IN CONTACT WITH THE RED CHERT.
