  • DUE TO THE EXTREMELY FINE GRAIN SIZE OF THE MCARTHUR RIVER ORES AND THE INTIMATE INTERWEAVING OF THE ECONOMIC SULFIDES WITH PYRITE AND SILICA EXTREMELY FINE GRINDING IS REQUIRED WHICH GIVES RISE TO FLOTATION PROBLEMS. AT PRESENT, TESTWORK INDICATES BEST RESULTS FROM CONVENTIONAL FLOTATION PRODUCING SEPARATE LEAD AND ZINC CONCENTRATES.
  • UNDERGROUND MINING METHOD WOULD BE ROOM AND PILLAR OR CUT AND FILL. MINING OPERATION ENVISAGED AS BEING A 300 METER DEEP OPEN PIT ENCOMPASSING 100 MILLION METRIC TONS OF ORE (U.S. BUREAU OF MINES MAFO NOTES ON MCARTHUR RIVER) WITH UNDERGROUND MINING OF THE REMAINDER.

Deposit CONSTRUCTION IS ON SCHEDULE FOR THE 1995 START UP FOR THE MINE WHICH WILL PRODUCE 350,000400,000 TPY ZINC CONC AND 45,000 TPY LEAD. THE DEPOSIT DIPS EASTERLY UNDER THE RIVER AND FLATTENS BENEATH ITS EASTERN FLOOD PLAIN.
