Identification information

Deposit ID 10132330
MRDS ID W032476
MAS/MILS ID 0560010023
Record type Site
Current site name Cobar No. 1
Alternate or previous names Laramie Range, Cobar No. 1 Mine, Cobar #1-Plicoflex Inc, Magnetite Products Corp.

Comments on the site identification

  • Mine shown as Iron on Geological Survey of Wyoming's "Mineas and Minerals Map of Wyoming" in the equivalent of Sec. 2 appears to be an error based on the incorrect section in Bull. 50. ABW could find no indication of a mine in Sec. 2. The location given as sec. 21 in IC-8315 is assumed to be the correct location.

Comments on the location information

  • E2 of sec. 21 (IC-8315, p. 15). Supposed location in Sec. 2 in Bull. 50, p. 108, appears to be a typo. There is a prospect on MF-119 in Sec. 21. There are no prospects in Sec. 2. Sec. 2 is mapped as hornblende syenite, not anorthosite, and therefore is unlikely to host this deposit, based on the two brief deposit descriptions not mentioning syenite. The mines and minerals map of Wyoming (1970) appears to propagate this error. Nor is there any indication of surface or road disturbances in Sec. 2.
