Comments on development

  • Quarries are shown on topo, but are barely visible on 2011 satellite imagery. Thus they have been long abandoned (as of 2011).
  • Clearly abandoned for many years as of 2011 based on satellite imagery. Bull. 50 says this was the largest sandstone quarry in Wyoming. The sandstone was the "Rawlins sandstone" and was quarried form the basal Mesaverde Formation. It was used to build the state penitentiary at Rawlins and the Federal bulding at Ogden, Utah, as well as trim Old Main, University of Wyoming at Laramie. (Bull. 50, p. 179).
