  • THE GENERAL STRUCTURE IN THE AREA IS A BROAD S-W PLUNGING ANTICLINE. THE MAPULA/MASARA MINE AREA IS CROSSCUT BY TWO MAFOR NW-SE TRENDING FAULTS. THE ORE TYPICALLY OCCURS AT THE ANDESITE-DIORITE CONTACT, BUT IS MORE PROMINANT ON THE FOOTWALL SIDE OF THE ANDESITE.

Deposit APEX MINING CO. BOUGHT CLAIMS THAT HAD PREVIOUSLY BELONGED TO SAMAR MINING COMPANY PRIOR TO 1973. APEX BEGAN LIMITED MINING IN 1973 AND OPERATIONS SUSPENDED IN 1974 DUE TO FALLING DU PRICES. RE-EVALUATION IN 1979 FOR 6,000 MTPD. ACCESS TO MINE SITE CAN BE MADE FROM THE TOWN OF MAWAB ABOUT 24 KM N-NW OF THE AREA BY GRADED DIRT ROAD. IN 1974 OPERATIONS WERE SUSPENDED DUE TO FALLING COPPER PRICES. THE FIRM WILL DEVELOP A LIMITED TOWN SITE.
