Comments on the geologic information

  • THE OREBODY IS CONTAINED IN A SMALL REFOLDED SYNCLINAL STRUCTURE. THE TABULAR OREBODY DIPS TO THE EAST AT 40 DEGREES. MINERALIZATION OCCURED BY SUPERGENIC ENRICHMENT OF THE ITABIRITES AS A RESULT OF METEORIC WATER PERCOLATION. DEPOSITS OF HIGH-GRADE HEMATITE OCCUR IN THE PRECAMBRIAN IRON FORMATION. THE IRON FORMATION IS PART OF A THICK SEQUENCE OF FOLDED METASEDIMENTARY ROCKS SURROUNDED BY GRANITE. THERE ARE TWO MAJOR TYPES OF IRON ORE, BEDROCK HEMATITE ORE CONTAINING 66 TO 69 PERCENT IRON, AND SURFICAL ORE CONTAINING 40 TO 68 PERCENT IRON. THE HIGH GRADE HEMATITE ORE OCCURS AS REPLACEMENT BODIES IN FORAMTIONS OF THE ITABIRA GROUP - DOMINANTLY IN THE CAUE ITABIRITE BUT TO SOME EXTENT IN THE GANDARELA FROMATION. THE SURFICIAL ORE IS DERIVED MOST COMMONLY FROM THESE FORMATIONS BY WEATHERING. THE HIGH GRADE BEDROCK HEMATITE ORES RANGE FROM HARD, DENSE, AND FINE GRAINED TO FINE, SOFT, AND POWDERY.
