Comments on the production information

  • PRODUCTION FROM BURREL IS HIGH CARBON FERROCHROME. THE CAPACITY OF BURREL IS 40,000 METRIC TONS PER YEAR.
  • THE RECOVERY RATE AT BURREL RANGES FROM 80 PERCENT TO 85 PERCENT. CR CONTENT IN THE PRODUCT IS TYPICALLY 64 PERCENT TO 66 PERCENT, WITH A MAXIMUM SILICA CONTENT OF 3 PERCENT, .03 PERCENT P, AND .06 PERCENT S. CARBON CONTENT IS 6 TO 8 PERCENT.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • LOCATED AT BURREL, BETWEEN THE TWO MAJOR CHROMITE MINING AREAS OF BULQUIZE AND KAM-KALIMASH. ORIGINALLY ON-LINE IN 1979 WITH TWO 9 MVA FURNACES OF CHINESE CONSTRUCTION. THIRD 9 MVA FURNACE ADDED IN 1987 WITH ASSISTANCE FROM JAPANESE. THIS BROUGHT TOTAL CAPACITY TO 45-50,000 MTPY HIGH-C FECR (ABOUT 38,000 MTPY PRODUCED IN 1988). PLANS ARE TO DOUBLE HIGH-C FECR CAPACITY BY 1990/1991 WITH THE ADDITION OF 3 MORE 9 MVA FURNACES (ALREADY UNDER CONTRACT). 1992 ADIT COMMENT: WITH ONLY ONE FURNACE, A 13,000 MT/YR ORE CAPACITY WAS NOTED.
  • LONGER RANGE PLANS (BEYOND 1991) ARE TO ADD 4 MORE FURNACES (120 MVA TOTAL) WITH PELLETIZING SYSTEM(EST.ABOUT 200,000 MTPY HC)

Comments on other economic factors

  • BURREL RECEIVES FEED FROM THE BULQIZE MINES, AND ALL FECR IS EXPORTED.
  • THE PLANT CONSISTS OF THREE 9 MVA FURNACES, TWO OF WHICH WERE SUPPLIED BY THE CHINESE IN 1978. THE THIRD FURNACE WAS BUILT IN 1987. THE RAW MATERIALS ARE WEIGHED AND BLENDED SEMI-AUTOMATICALLY. THEN THE CHARGE IS FED TO THE TOP OF THE FURNACES BY CONVEYOR. LINE EQUIPMENT IS USED TO SEPARATE SLAG FROM FECR. THEN FECR IS POURED INTO THE CASTING MACHINE. THE SLABS ARE BROKEN INTO LUMPS AND SIZED ACCORDINGLY TO CUSTOMER REQUIRMENTS. POWER IS PROVIDED FROM HYDRO-ELECTRIC STATIONS. DUE TO A DROUGHT IN 1990, BURREL WAS CLOSED DUE TO LACK OF POWER.
