  • NAAC IS A 32 MEMBER CONSORTIUM OF JAPANESE COMPANIES. DUE TO THE COLLAPSE OF THE ALUMINA MARKET IN 1985, NAAC PULLED OUT OF THE PROJECT. AT PRESENT (JULY 1993), THEY ARE NEGOTIATING TO RE-ENTER THE PROJECT WITH A 17.2% SHARE, AND CVRD EXPECTS THEM TO INCREASE THAT TO 22.7%.

  • WHEN ALUNORTE IS OPERATING AT FULL CAPACITY, SCHEDULED FOR 1996, A SURPLUS OF SOME 330,000 METRIC TONS OF ALUMINA WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT, OVER AND ABOVE THE ALUMINA REQUIREMENTS OF BOTH ALBRAS AND THE VALESUL FACILITY, OPERATED BY ALUVALE AND GENCOR.
