Comments on the geologic information

  • THE FORMATIONS IN THIS AREA WERE ORIGINALLY DEPOSITED IN A PRECAMBRIAN SEA AS SANDS, SILTS AND IRON LADEN MUDS. DURING SUBSEQUENT MOUNTAIN CHAIN FOLDINGS THESE SEDIMENTS HARDENED INTO "ITABIRITES" (40-50% FE). THE HIGH-GRADE ORE DEPOSITS ARE THOUGHT TO HAVE FORMED THROUGH INTENSE WEATHERING OF THE ITABIRITES. THE LARGEST ORE BODY AT NIMBA, THE "MAIN OREBODY", IS 1.5 KM LONG, 400 M WIDE AND MORE THAN 600 M DEEP IN THE CENTER.
