  • LOWER CHERTY MEMBER IS THIN THROUGHOUT MOST OF THIS RANGE, BUT INCREASES IN THICKNESS TOWARDS THE WESTERN BOUNDARY. BEDS ARE GENTLY FOLDED WITH GENTLE DIPS AND THUS PRODUCE A RELATIVELY WIDE OUTCROP PATTERN. TACONITE PRODUCTION FROM RANGE 13W HAS BEEN MAINLY FROM THE UPPER CHERTY MEMBER. LENGTH AND WIDTH REFER TO THE ENTIRE BIWABIK FORMATION OF RANGE 13W. THICKNESS REFERS TO AVERAGE THICKNESS OF THE TACONITE UNITS OF RANGE 13W. HOST ROCK IS METASEDIMENT.

MOISTURE CONTENT OF THE ORE IS LESS THAN 2% AND, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INDUSTRY PRACTICE, WAS ASSUMED TO BE NEGLIGIBLE. THE PLANT CAPACITY WAS29200000 MTPY.
