Comments on the production information

  • MINING ACTIVITY IN THE CARAVIA DISTRICT BEGAN IN 1937/38 AND WERE NOT INTERRUPTED UNTIL 1978, WHEN ALL OPERATIONS CEASED. THE MAJOR PORTION OF THE PRODUCTION FROM THIS DISTRICT IS FROM THE OPEN PIT SAN LINO MINE. THE UNDER- GROUND MINE IS STILL UNDER DEVELOPMENT.

Comments on other economic factors

  • THE FLOTATION MILL AT PINZALES PRODUCES THREE SALABLE PRODUCTS. THE ACID GRADE FILTER CAKE IS SHIPPED BY TRUCK TO THE PORT OF AVILES. THE MAJOR CONSUMERS HAVE BEEN THE U.S.S.R. AND THE U.S. THE OTHER TWO PRODUCTS, DRIED ACID AND CERAMIC GRADE CONCENTRATES, ARE SHIPPED BY RAIL TO CONSUMERS IN EUROPE. METALLURGICAL GRAVEL PRODUCED AT ESPASA (CARAVIA DISTRICT, HEAVY MEDIA PLANT) IS PRESUMED TO BE SOLD TO STEEL PLANTS IN NORTHERN SPAIN.
  • THE TOTAL SURFACE AND UNDERGROUND MINE TONNAGE FOR THE CARAVIA DISTRICT IS 330,000 MT/YEAR, AND FOR THE COLLADA DISTRICT IS 120,000 MT/YEAR.
  • THE TOTAL SURFACE AND UNDERGROUND MINE TONNAGE FOR THE CARAVIA DISTRICT IS 330,000 MT/YEAR, AND FOR THE COLLADA DISTRICT IS 120,000 MT/YEAR.
  • THE WEIGHTED AVERAGE FEED GRADE IS 22.1 WT%.
  • THE ORE MINED IN THE CARAVIA DISTRICT IS FED TO A HEAVY MEDIA PLANT PRIOR TO SHIPMENT TO THE FLOTATION MILL AT PINZALES. ALL ORE PRODUCED IN THE COLLADA DISTRICT IS SENT TO THE WASH PLANT IN COLLADA, BEFORE BEING SHIPPED TO THE FLOTATION MILL IN PINZALES.

Deposit DATA CONTAINED IN THIS FILE WAS COLLECTED BY DAMES & MOORE UNDER U.S. BUREAU OF MINES CONTRACT #JO225010 IN 1983. INFORMATION REGARDING MINE/MILL OPERATING DAYS AND CAPACITIES WERE ESTIMATED, AND SHOULD BE UPDATED WHEN CORRECT INFORMATION IS RECEIVED. IT WAS ASSUMED THAT BOTH THE MINES AND MILLS OPERATED 300 DAYS PER YEAR.
