Comments on the production information

  • THE IRTYSH DEPOSIT WAS DISCOVERED IN 1953 AND MINING OPERATIONS COMMENCED IN 1964. THE COST OF MINING ONE METRIC TON OF ORE IN 1989 WAS R25.15. THERE ARE PLANS TO EXPAND THE CAPACITY OF THIS MINE BY ABOUT 30 PERCENT. REPLACEMENT ORE BODIES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE AREA AND THE POTENTIAL FOR NEW DISCOVERIES IS SAID TO BE HIGH. RECORDS 6, 7, 8 FROM COMD SPEC., 1997 BASED ON 1995 DATA.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • RESERVES ARE SUFFICIENT FOR A FURTHER 24 YEARS OF PRODUCTION OR APPROXIMATELY 9 MILLION METRIC TONS OF ORE. THE ORE GRADES ARE NOT EXPECTED TO CHANGE SIGNIFICANTLY IN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. THE CUT-OFF GRADE IS 2 PERCENT ZINC EQUIVALENT. RESERVES HAVE BEEN PROVED DOWN TO A DEPTH OF 1,000 METERS.

Comments on other economic factors

  • THE UNDERGROUND MINE IS ACCESSED BY TWO SHAFTS. THE PRINCIPAL MINING METHODS ARE CUT-AND-FILL STOPING AND SUB-LEVEL CAVING. BACKFILL MATERIAL DOES NOT CONTAIN CONCENTRATOR TAILINGS. DILUTION IS 24 PERCENT AND MINING RECOVERY IS 95.5 PERCENT. MINING OPERATIONS ARE CURRENTLY CENTERED ON THE 500 METER LEVEL. WATER FLOWS INTO THE MINE AT THE RATE OF 110 CUBIC METERS PER HOUR. THE WEAKNESS OF WALL ROCKS NECESSITATES A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF ROOF SUPPORT AND CONTRIBUTES TO THE HIGH DILUTION. TORO 200 LHD VEHICLES ARE USED WITH 25 TON DUMP TRUCKS. MOST MOBILE EQUIPMENT IS OF SOVIET ORIGIN.
