  • WHILE PLANT CAPACITY IS REPORTED TO BE 520,000 MTPY, 1991 WAS 370,000 MTPY AND 1992 PRODUCTION WAS 360,000 MTPY. SEVERE SUPPLY DISRUPTION DUE TO FIGHTING BETWEEN COMMUNIST AND ISLAMIC FORCES OCCURRED IN 1991 AND 1992. PLANT SEEKING FOREIGN INVESTMENT TO EXPAND FACILITY. PLANT SHORT OF RAW MATERIALS IN 1993. ACQUIRES MATERIALS ON BARTER BASIS FREIGHT COSTS ARE HIGH PLANT HAS DIFFICULTY PAYING WAGES DUE TO CASH SHORTAGES. PLANT REQUIRES RECONSTRUCTION. PLANT NOW ONLY PRODUCES POORER QUALITY (97% PURE) AL, WHICH IS NOT ACCEPTABLE ON MANY FOREIGN MARKETS.
