  • THE OUTOKUMPU VAMMALA MINE/MILL PRODUCES FROM 360,000 TONNES DRY ORE A CONCENTRATE CONTAINING 9% NI AND 5.9% CU. ENONKOSKI HAS CAPACITY TO PRODUCE 500,000 TONNES/YR DRY ORE. THIS IS PROCESSED ON THE ON-SITE MILL INTO A CONCENTRATE CONTAINING 10% NI, 4% CU, AND APPROXIMATELY 2% CO. BOTH CONCENTRATES FROM VAMMALA AND ENONKOSKI ARE SENT TO THE HARJAVALTA FLASH SMELTER FOR MATTE PRODUCTION.

Deposit ORE FROM THE ENONKOSKI MINE HAS REPLACED PRODUCTION FROM THE KOTALAHTI MINE, WHICH WAS TO CLOSE LATE IN 1985. BEGINNING IN AUGUST, 1991, OUTOKUMPU WILL UPGRADE ITS CAPACITY FROM 17,000 TONNES/YEAR TO 20,500 TONNES/YEAR OF CONTAINED NICKEL. OUTOKUMPU IS CONSIDERING OTHER DEPOSITS: MT. KIETH, FORESTANIA IN AUSTRALIA, KIVIJARVI AND SOMULI IN FINLAND. *MINE IS SET TO CLOSE NEAR THE END OF 1994. *STARTED IN 1986. HAD A TOTAL MILL FEED OF 5.2 MMT, OF WHICH 650,000 MT CAME FROM TELKKALA AND HALVALA. *MINE IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE 600,000 MT IN 1994. *VAMMALA MINE IS EXPECTED TO CLOSE IN 1994.
