Comments on the reserve resource information

  • RESERVES ARE SUFFICIENT FOR A FURTHER 10 YEARS OR APPROXIMATELY 12 MILLION METRIC TONS. GRADES OF THE RESERVES ARE EXPECTED TO DECLINE DURING THE REMAINING YEARS. THE CUT-OFF GRADE IS 0.3 PERCENT COPPER AND THE MINIMUM MINING WIDTH IS 36 METERS.

Comments on other economic factors

  • ALL ORE IS DELIVERED BY RAIL TO THE KRASNOURALSK CONCENTRATOR, 27 KILOMETERS FROM THE MINE.
  • THE DEPOSIT IS MINED BY OPEN PIT METHODS. THE PIT IS CURRENTLY 900 BY 600 METERS AND 78 METERS DEEP. ITS FINAL PLANNED DEPTH IS 210 METERS. THE MINE USES 5 CUBIC METER SHOVELS, 40 METRIC TON BELAZ 548 DUMP TRUCKS, AND SOVIET ROTARY DRILLING RIGS. THERE ARE NO PLANS TO EXPAND THE MINE. HOWEVER, THE INCREASING DEPTH OF THE OPEN PIT AND THE DECLINING ORE GRADE ARE PROBLEMS WHICH MIGHT BE OVERCOME BY SWITCHING TO UNDERGROUND MINING. THIS WOULD REQUIRE AN INVESTMENT IN SHAFT SINKING AND UNDERGROUND DEVELOPMENT. THE MINE HAS A SIZEABLE STOCKPILE OF OXIDE ORE. AT PRESENT THERE ARE NO PLANS TO TREAT THIS MATERIAL BUT IT IS NECESSARY TO ISOLATE THE RUN-OFF FROM THE PILE IN ORDER TO PREVENT GROUNDWATER CONTAMINATION.
