Subject category Comment text
Deposit VALLEY CHROME OPERATION HAS HISTORICALLY BEEN THE THIRD LARGEST PRODUCER IN THE SELUKWE DISTRICT BEHIND SELUKWE PEAK AND RAILWAY BLOCK. THE PROPERTY IS LOCATED 17 KM N OF THE TOWN OF SELUKWE AND BEGAN PRODUCTION IN 1969. OREBODIES ARE ESSENTIALLY FLAT-LYING WITH SOME EROSIONAL REMNANTS OCCURING ON HILL RIDERS. THE ORE IS A HARD, DISSEMINATED, LOW-GRADE (36-42% CR2O3), HIGH MAGNESIA TYPE WITH LOW CR/FE RATIOS (2.3-2.7/1.0) COMPARED TO OTHER ZIMBABWE ORE. THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF ORE CLASSIFICATION BASED ON COLOR-BLUE ORE (42% CR2O3) AND BLACK ORE (39-40% CR2O3).
