Comments on the production information

  • THE MINE WAS EVIDENTLY OPERATED FOR A SHORT PERIOD DURING SOME PART OF THE PERIOD 1946-50. THE PRESENT OPERATION STARTED IN 1959. MINING OF THE PRESENT OREBODY BEGAN IN 1973.
  • MILL RECOVERY FOR GRAPHITE A IS ACTUALLY 17.9% AND FOR GRAPHITE B IS ACTUALLY 63.8%.
  • THE GUN-JA DEPOSIT ACTUALLY PRODUCES FOUR DIFFERENT CONCEN- TRATES KNOWN AS GRADES A, B, C, AND D. FOR PURPOSES OF EVALUATION, GRADES A AND B WERE COMBINED AS GRAPHITE A, AND GRADES C AND D WERE COMBINED AS GRAPHITE B. GRAPHITE A HAS 85% CARBON, IS +80 MESH IN SIZE, AND COMPRISES 20% OF TOTAL PRODUCTION. GRAPHITE B HAS 75% CARBON, IS -80 MESH IN SIZE, AND COMPRISES 80% OF TOTAL PRODUCTION. THE PRODUCTION RATES IN 1982, 1983, AND 1984 THROUGH LIFE ARE ALL DIFFERENT. THEREFORE, 6 P DATA SETS ARE REQUIRED. PA, PC, AND PE ARE ALL GRAPHITE A CONCENTRATE. PB, PD, AND PF ARE ALL GRAPHITE B CONCENTRATE. THE 6 DATA SETS ARE NEEDED TO SHOW VARYING OUTPUT LEVELS AND MILL OP. COSTS. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT GUN-JA ALSO PRODUCES BRICKS MADE FROM THE GRAPHITE TAILS. ALTHOUGH NONE OF THE COSTS GIVEN IN THIS EVALUATION RELATE TO THE BRICK-MAKING OPER- ATION, IT APPEARS THAT THE DEMAND FOR BRICKS MAY BE THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IN DETERMINING THE GRAPHITE PROD- UCTION LEVEL, RATHER THAN THE DEMAND FOR GRAPHITE. ALTHOUGH THIS IS SPECULATION, IT IS SUPPORTED BY THE FACT THAT BRICK PRODUCTION APPEARS TO BE MORE IMPORTANT TO THE MINE ECONOMICS THAN GRAPHITE PRODUCTION.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • M1C1=M9C4. DEMONSTRATED RESOURCE TONNAGE SUPPLIED BY MINE MANAGER. THE INFERRED TONNAGE WAS ESTIMATED BY ZELLARS-WILLIAMS, INC. ALL TONNAGES INCLUDE 12% DILUTION AND ARE 100% RECOVERABLE. GRADE ALSO REFLECTS DILUTION. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT GUN-JA HAS A LARGE INFERRED RESOURCE. ALTHOUGH THIS MATERIAL IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE EVALUATION, IT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO GREATLY EXTEND THE MINE LIFE.

Comments on the workings information

  • PRECIPITATION AMOUNT IS NOT KNOWN, BUT WINTERS ARE SEVERE AND SUMMERS ARE VERY WET. THE THIN SOIL IN THE AREA IS LATERITIC. THE WORKING SEASON IS BASICALLY SPRING AND FALL BECAUSE OF WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE 15 HECTARES OF LAND POTENTIALLY DISTURBED REFLECTS ONLY THE AREA OF DEMONSTRATED RESERVES. IF INFERRED RESOURCES ARE INCLUDED, THE AREA INCRESES TO 2550 HECTARES (TOTAL MINERAL HOLDINGS).

Comments on other economic factors

  • MINE-TO-MILL TRANSPORTATION COSTS INCLUDED IN MINE OP. COST. CONCENTRATE IS SHIPPED TO A COMPANY WAREHOUSE IN SEOUL.
  • THE CAPACITY FIGURES GIVEN REFLECT CHANGES IN THE PRODUCTION RATE, NOT CHANGES IN THE DESIGN CAPACITY. THE SURFACE AREA SHOWN IS ONLY FOR THE PRESENT OREBODY. IT DOES NOT REFLECT MINING OF INFERRED RESOURCES.
  • MINE/MILL DESIGN CAPACITY IS CONSTANT, BUT THE PRODUCTION RATE CHANGES IN 1983 AND IN 1984.

Deposit COST DATA FOR THIS PROPERTY WERE GATHERED UNDER BUREAU OF MINES CONTRACT J0225019, "THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENGINEERING AND COST DATA FOR FOREIGN GRAPHITE PROPERTIES"; THE CONTRACT WAS AWARDED TO ZELLARS-WILLIAMS, INC. IN SEPTEMBER 1982. THE DIMENSIONS OF MINERALIZATION REFLECT ONLY THE AREA OF DEMONSTRATED RESERVES.
