  • SMELTER PRODUCES BOTH FERRONICKEL AND MATTE. ABOUT 75% IS FERRONICKEL. MATTE IS SHIPPED TO FRANCE FOR REFINING. CAPACITY REPRESENTS TOTAL COMBINED NICKEL IN PRODUCT. CAPACITY IS SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER THAN CURRENT CAPACITY. (11/86). MATTE CONTAINS 78 PCT NI AND FERRONICKEL CONTAINS 25% NI. GRADE ON PRODUCTS REFLECT NI CONTAINED IN PRODUCTS. ONLY COBALT AND C COPPER DIRECTED TO THE REFINERY IS RECOVERED. THE MAJORITY IS LOST TO FERRONICKEL.

  • SOCIETE METALLURGIQUE LE NICKEL S.A. (SLN) PRODUCES A MATTE, CONTAINING 75% NI AND (ESTIMATED) 1.5% CO, AS WELL AS FERRONICKEL, CONTAINING 26% NI. THESE ARE TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PROCESSING CIRCUITS, HOWEVER LOCATED IN THE SAME PLANT. ESTIMATED CAPACITY IS BASED ON THESE PERCENTAGES.
  • SEVERAL FURNACE HAVE BEEN INOPERATIVE, CAUSING A SHARP DECREASE FROM THE ORIGINAL OPERATING CAPACITY (104,000 TONNES/YEAR CONTAINED NICKEL). PRESENT PRODUCTION CAPACITY IS ESTIMATED AT 50,000 TONNES/YEAR CONTAINED NICKEL.
