Comments on the geologic information

  • THE DEPOSIT IS A METAMORPHOSED COAL SEAM AT THE TOP OF THE MORRISON FORMATION.IT IS OVER LAIN BY THE KOOTENAI FORMATION STRUCTURALLY THESE ROCKS ARE PART OF THE EAST LIMB OF A BROAD NORTH TRENDING SYNCLINE. THE BEDDING STRIKE RANGES FROM N TO NE WITH DIPS RANGING FROM 20-55 W. THE METAMORPHOSED COAL SEAM IS BLACK, EARTHY, INTERNALLY CONTORTED WITH NUMEROUS METALLIC LUSTERED SLICKENSIDES. THE SEAM IS UNDERLAIN BY HARD,SHEARED CLAYSTONE AND OVERLAIN BY HARD, BLACK, SHATTERED AND SHEARED SHALE AND MUDSTONE.
  • UNITED MINERALS HAS HAD EXTENSIVE WORK DONE ON THE NATURE OF THE SEAM. THEY FEEL THE DEPOSIT IS A METAMORPHOSED COAL SEAM THAT WAS ON ITS WAY TO BECOMMING A AMORPHOUS GRAPHITE DEPOSIT, BUT THE GRAPHITE FORMING PROCESSES WERE NOT CARRIED TO COMPLETION. THE SEAM IS A GRAPHITIC CARBON CLAY OR MUD- STONE. THE AMOUNT OF AMORPHOUS GRAPHITE PRESENT IN THE SEAM IS UNKNOWN, AND MAY BE IMPOSSIBLE TO QUANTIFY.

Comments on the ownership information

  • THE BLACK DIAMOND GRAPHITE CO IS A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN GRAPHITE SALES INC (A CLEVELAND, OHIO FIRM) AND THE NATIONAL MINERALS CO OF MISSOULA, MT. THE UNITED MINERALS CO. (A SUBSIDIARY OF GRAPHITE SALES INC) MINES THE DEPOSIT.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • THE BLACK DIAMOND DEPOSIT IS NOT GRAPHITE IN THE INDUSTRIAL SENSE (FLAKE, LUMP, OR AMORPHOUS). THE DEPOSIT IS UNIQUE AND SHOULD NOT BE GROUPED WITH THE OTHER GRAPHITE RESOURCES IN THE USA. THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT THE DEPOSIT IS USELESS, SMALL QUANTITES ARE BEING SOLD FOR USE IN THE STEEL INDUSTRY FURTHER STUDIES (WHICH GRAPHITE SALES INC IS UNDERTAKING) MAY REVEAL OTHER INDUSTRIAL USES OF THE DEPOSIT. CARBON MATERIAL RUNS AS HIGH AS 60% CARBON, BUT OVERALL IT AVERAGES 25 OT 35% CARBON. THE GRAPHITE CONTENT IS UNKNOWN, BUT IS PROBABLY SMALL.

Comments on the workings information

  • DEPOSIT IS MINED ON A VERY SMALL SCALE, ONLY 2 OR 3 HA ARE BEING DISTURBED. EFFECT ON THE ENVIRONMENT IS NILL.
