Comments on the geologic information

  • THE MAJORITY OF THE CYPRUS PYRITE/COPPER/ZINC SULFIDE MINERAL DEPOSITS ARE VERTICALLY ZONED: CONSISTING OF THREE ZONES; ZONE A, A MASSIVE SULFIDE OER; ZONE B, A SILICEOUS SULFIDE ORE; ZONE C, A STOCKWORK ORE. ORE ZONE A IS THE MAIN ECONOMIC ORE, CONTAINING PYRITE, AT AROUND 40% SULFUR. THIS IS A HARD COMPACT ORE OVERLAIN BY A POROUS CONGLOMERATIC ORE. THE MAIN MINERAL IS PYRITE, WITH SOME CHALCOPYRITE AND SPHALERITE. IN ZONE B THE SULFIDE ORE IS MIXED WITH SILICA. THE PYRITE RANGES FROM 30% TO 40% SULFUR, CHALCOPYRITE AND SPHALERITE ARE ALSO PRESENT IS LESSER AMOUNTS. ZONE C, THE STOCKKWORK ORE CONTAINS PYRITE AT LESS THAN 30% SULFUR, AND SMALL AMOUNTS OF CHALCOPYRITE. SEE THE "R" BIBLIGRAPHY REFERENCE.
