  • WATER SUPPLY HAS ALWAYS BEEN A CRITICAL FACTOR IN CHUQUI DEVELOPMENT. IN 1975, OF THE 26 MILLION GAL. OF WATER REQUIRED AT CHUQUI, 16 MILL. WAS MAKE-UP AND 10 MILL. NEW. (1975 CAPACITY WAS 72000 MTPD-25,200,000 MTPY).THE 2 MAJOR WATER SOURCES WERE THE RIO SALADA (MAX.FLOW 10,145,280 GPD) AND THE RIO SAN PEDRO (MAX.FLOW 13,738,400 GPD, CHUQUI USING 7,529,700 GPD IN 1975. IN 1952 POTABLE WATER (4,500 MTPD) WAS BEING PIPED IN THE TOCONCE PIPELINE FROM SPRINGS 94 KM DUE EAST OF CHUQUI, IN 1952 THE WATER FROM THE RIO SALADA WAS DELIVERED BY 70 KM PIPELINE AND WATER FROM RIO SAN PEDRO WAS PIPED 50 KM. FUTURE EXPANSIONS WILL HAVE TO TAKE THE WATER SITUATION INTO CAREFUL CONSI- DERATION.
