INFORMATION ON GRADE OF CO IN ORE AND AMOUNTS PRODUCED AND STOCKPILED ARE SCANT -ONE SOURCE SAYS 7,000 MT PYRITE CONC./YR.PRODUCED BUT ANOTHER SOURCE SAYS ONLY 700,000 MT AT 1.3% CO WERE STOCKPILED AS OF 1969. IT WAS ANNOUNCED IN OCT. 1969 THAT COMPANY PLANNED TO CONSTRUCT A $4,200,000 PLANT TO PRODUCE 1016 METRIC TONS/YR. OF A COBALT COMPOUND FROM THIS STOCKPILED MATERIAL. CONSTRUCTION WAS TO BEGIN IN MID-1970 AND COMPLETED BY END OF 1971. PLANT HAS NOT BEEN CONSTRUCTED AS OF 1978.

  • THE RAILWAY EXTENSION FROM KAMPALA TO KASESE HAS OPENED UP VAST AREAS OF POTENTIALLY RICH AGRICULTURALLY RICH LAND IN WESTERN UGANDA. DEVELOPMENT OF THIS LAND WAS MADE POSSIBLE BY THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MINE.

  • CU CONCS. ARE SENT BY PIPELINE 13 KM SE TO KASESE FOR DRYING AND THEN RAIL SHIPMENT 356 KM EAST TO THE SMELTER AT JINJA. THE BLISTER CU PRODUCED AT JINJA IS THEN RAILED 1120 KM SE TO MOMBASA, KENYA FOR EXPORT. ACTERIZED BY GENERALLY CON-ABILITATE THE MINE AND MILL AND NEW SMELTER AT KASESE. TRANSPORT WOULD INVOLVE 13 KM PIPELINE TO SMETLER AND 1500 KM BY RAIL TO MOMASA, KENYA FOR EXPORT AS BLISTER COPPER. OCEAN TRANSPORT 3000 KM TO HUELVA SPAIN FOR REFINING.
  • THE SMELTER CUSTOM CHARGES CODED AS C1 AND C2 CAN BE BROKEN DOWN AS FOLLOWS: CU SMELT= $67.94/MT CO SMELT= $12.00/MT TOTAL= $79.94 IN 1973 A ROYALTY WAS PAID TO THE UGANDA GOVT.
