Deposit THE BAIMA DEPOSIT IS A VANADIUM-BEARING TITANOMAGNETITE WHICH IS HOSTED IN THE MAFIC-LAYERED INTRUSION. THE ORE BODIES WITH TOTAL THICKNESS OF 150-200M ARE INTER-LAYERED IN THE LOW- ER PARTS OF THE GABBRO INTRUSION. THE ORE BODIES STRETCH 24KM FROM NORTH TO SOUTH AND DIP TO THE WEST WITH AN ANGLE FROM 50 TO 70 DEGREES. MORE THAN TEN OTHER ECONOMIC MINERALS INCLUDING CU, CO, NI, CR, SC, TE, SE, PT, S, P, ETC. ARE PRESENT IN ORE BODIES. THE MAIN INDUSTRIAL MINERALS ARE VANADIUM-BEARING TITANOMAG- NETITE, ILMENITE AND SULFIDE MINERALS. THE DEPOSIT CONSISTS OF THREE MINE DISTRICTS FROM NORTH TO SOUTH; THEY ARE XIJIPIN, JIJIPIN. AND TAINJAZHOUN. THE DETAILED EXPLORATION HAS BEEN FINISHED BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN MINED YET. THE CHARACTERS OF THE BAIMA DEPOSIT ARE RELATIVELY HIGHER IN FE CONTENT IN THE TITANOMAGNETITE CONC. AND LOWER IN TI CON- TENT IN THE ORE. THE DEPOSIT IS DESIGNED TO BE MINED BY OPEN PIT AND THE CAPACITY OF MINING IS DESIGNED AS 15-18 MT ORE/YR. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE ORE HAS A CONTENT OF 25.84% FE, IT CONSISTS OF .017% CU, .007% CO, .002% NI, .518% S AND .923% P2O5. THE MINING CONDITION IS GOOD. IT HAS A STRIPPING RATIO OF 1.9 CU-M ROCK/CU-M ORE. THE BAIMA DEPOSIT IS PLANNED TO BE MINED FIRST AMONG OTHER NON-PRODUCED MAGNETITE DEPOSITS. THE VANADIUM-BEARING TITANO- MAGNETITE CONC. IS PLANNED TO SUPPLY TO THE SECOND PANXI STEEL AND IRON PLANT, WHICH WILL BE CONSTRUCTED IN THE YEARS 1995- 2000 IN THE SICHUAN PROVINCE. THE DEPOSIT IS LOCATED 440KM SOUTHWEST OF CHENGDU AND IS ACCESSIBLE BY THE CHENGDU-W. KUNMING RAILWAY.
