Deposit MANGANESE AREAS CONSIST OF FIVE PLATEAUS: BANGOMBE, OKUOMA, MASSENGO, BAFOLO, AND YEYE. MINING IS CURRENTLY ON BANGOMBE. THERE ARE ABOUT 100MT REMAINING ON BANGOMBE AS OF 1990. OKUOMA COULD CONTAIN 50MT OF SIMILAR TYPE MATERIAL; ORE ON THE OTHER PLATEAUS IS PROBABLY LOWER GRADE. ORE IS FLAT-LYING AND SOFT; BOTH ORE AND OVERBURDEN ARE EXCAVATED BY DRAGLINES AND SCRAPERS. BENEFICIATION IS BY SIZING AND WASHING(METALLURGICAL ORE) AND HEAVY MEDIA(BAT- -TERY ORE). INFORMATION(1990) INDICATES THAT CONCENTRATE SHIPMENT WILL BE SPLIT 50:50 BETWEEN POINT NOIRE, CONGO AND THE NEW 650KM TRANS-GABON RAILWAY TO PORT LOADING FACILITIES AT OWENDA. TO SUPORT THEIR +3,800 LABOR FORCE, THE COMPANY HAS BUILT OVER 2,000 LODGING UNITS, FOUR HOSPITAL, SEVERAL PRIM- -ARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS, AND VARIOUS CLUBS AND RECREATION FACILITIES.
