Deposit THE ESTIMATED ORE GRADE IS 33.4% IRON (FE), 19 % SILICA (SI02), 8 % MAGNESIA (MGO), 4 % LIME (CAO), 4 % ALUMINA (AL203), .07 % PHOSPHOROUS (P), AND .7 % SULFUR (S). A ROAD WAS CONSTRUCTED 19 KILOMETERS (KM) FROM INTER- STATE HIGHWAY TEN FOR MINE DEVELOPMENT. WATER IS OBTAINED FROM WELLS. THE FIRST WELL DRILLED, WAS 14 KM NORTHEAST OF THE MINE AT PINTO WELLS. ELECTRICAL POWER WAS BROUGHT IN FROM THE SOUTH, A DISTANCE OF EIGHT KM FROM THE METROPOLITAN WATER DISTRICT EAGLE MOUNTAIN PUMPING PLANT. AN 84 KM STANDARD-GUAGE RAILROAD LINE WAS BUILT DURING 1947-1948, BETWEEN THE MINE AND FERRUM, CALIFORNIA, A STATION ON THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD, FIVE KM SOUTHEAST OF SALTON STATION. THE METASEDIMENTS ARE PROBABLY PALEOZOIC, AND POSSIBLY PRECAMBRIAN. THE ORE MINERALS ARE PROBABLY CRETACEOUS AND CERTAINLY MESOZOIC.
