  • THE CAPACITY AT THE LAC SMELTER IS APPROXIMATELY 7,000 METRIC TONS OF BLISTER PER YEAR. THE LAC SMELTER ALSO PRODUCES ABOUT 1,500 METRIC TONS PER YEAR OF COPPER SULPHATE FOR THE DOMESTIC FERTILIZER INDUSTRY. BECAUSE OF VARIABLE FEED COMPOSITION AND POOR QUALITY COKE, RECOVERY IS ONLY 92.0%. THE TWO FURNACES USE APPROXIMATELY 2,100 KILOWATT HOURS PER METRIC TON OF METAL. THE OPERATING DAYS WERE ASSUMED TO BE 250 PER YEAR. THE ANODE FURNACES PRODUCE 170 KILOGRAMS OF ANODES FROM A CONTINUOUS CASTING WHEEL. THE ANODE CYCLE IS UNDETERMINED. BGR REPORTS THAT THE LAC SMELTER PROCESSES 28,000 METRIC TONS OF ORE PER YEAR FROM SHKRODRA AT 2.7% CU. THE SMELTER IS ALSO REPORTED TO PROCESS 38,000 METRIC TONS PER YEAR OF CONCENTRATES AT 17% CU. THESE CONCENTRATES ARE FROM: 1.FUSHE ARREZ - 12,500 METRIC TONS 2.REPS (SPAC) - 13,500 METRIC TONS 3.REHOVE - 4,500 METRIC TONS 4.RRESHEN - 4,500 METRIC TONS 5.KURBNESH - 3,000 METRIC TONS BGR REPORTS THAT LAC PRODUCED 7,000 METRIC TONS OF BLISTER PER YEAR. ALL PRODUCTION LEVELS ARE ESTIMATED.

  • THE LAC SMELTER USES A SHAFT FURNACE BUILT BY THE CHINESE BASED ON JAPANESE TECHNOLOGY. AN ELECTRIC FURNACE IS AVAILABLE FOR CONVERTER SLAG. TWO CONVERTERS CONVERT MATTE WITH 20% COPPER AND SLAG WITH .30% COPPER TO BLISTER CONTAINING 99% CU. TWO OTHER CONVERTERS ARE AVAILABLE ON A STAND-BY BASIS. THE CONVERTER CYCLE TIME IS EIGHT HOURS. THE ANODE FURNACE TAKES SCRAP AND ABOUT 5,200 AND 3,700 METRIC TONS PER YEAR OF BLISTER FROM KUKES AND RUBIK, RESPECTIVELY. THERE ARE TWO STATIONARY ANODE FURNACES AT LAC EACH WITH A 60 METRIC TONS BLISTER PER DAY CAPACITY. LAC SMELTER PROVIDES APPROXIMATELY 20 METRIC TONS PER DAY, RUBNIK PROVIDES 9 METRIC TONS PER DAY, AND KUKES PROVIDES 16 METRIC TONS PER DAY.
  • THERE ARE PLANS TO CONSTRUCT A 60,000 METRIC TON PER YEAR CAPACITY FURNACE SOON TO ROAST PYRITES. THE MANAGEMENT PERSONNEL AT LAC IS ALSO SEEKING FINANCING FOR AN OXYGEN PLANT WHICH WOULD INCREASE THE CAPACITY OF THE SMELTER. THE ACID PLANT REQUIRES MODERNIZATION AND REFURBISHMENT.
  • THE LAC SMELTER RECEIVES ORE FEED FROM THE FOLLOWING PRODUCERS: 1.SHKRODER-15,000 TO 16,000 METRIC TONS PER YEAR OF 2.7% TO 2.8% CU. CONCENTRATE FEEDS ARE RECEIVED FROM THE FOLLOWING: 1.FUSHE-ARREZ - 43.4% OF TOTAL 2.REPS - 15.6% OF TOTAL 3.KURBNESH - 10.6% OF TOTAL 4.RRESHEN - 7.7% OF TOTAL 5.SHKRODER - 10.4% OF TOTAL 6.REHOVE - 11.9% OF TOTAL ABOVE TOTALS ARE APPROXIMATELY 44,000 METRIC TONS PER YEAR OF COPPER WITH GRADES OF 14% TO 16.5%.
