Deposit POINT OF REFERENCE IS TOWN OF LAIWU. PROVINCE HAS 300 SMALL PHOSPHATE DEPOSITS, THERE ARE MANY SMALL MINES AND FERTILIZER PLANTS. A PLANT WAS COMISSIONED IN 1991 TO CONVERT 160,000 T/YR OF GYPSUM WASTE FROM AMMONIUM PHOSPHATE PRODUCTION INTO 40,000 T/YR OF SULPHURIC ACID AND 60,000 T/YR OF CEMENT. THE US $10.6 MILLION PROJECT AT LUBEI CHEMICAL CO. IS EXPECTED TO FREE UP AN EIGHT HECTARE AREA USED FOR WASTE STROAGE. LOCATION OF LUBEI NOT KNOWN. ACCORDING TO THE WORLD BANK, SHANDONG PROVINCE PRODUCED 100,200 METRIC TONS OF PHOSPHATE ROCK FROM SMALL MINES IN 1985.
