Comments on the production information

  • AFTER RECONSTRUCTION, THE THREE CORNERSTONES OF THE INDUSTRY WILL BE GALATI, CALARASI, AND HUNEDOARA. HUNEDOARA WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SECTIONS AND PROFILES. THEY WILL ALSO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPPLYING THE REST OF THE INDUSTRY WITH SEMI- PRODUCTS. THE OTHER STEELWORKS WILL REDUCE THEIR RAW STEEL PRODUCTION AND WORK AS EITHER ELECTRIC-MILLS OR AS RE-ROLLERS. ACCORDING TO 1991 CERNA REPORTS, THE HUNEDOARA OPERATIONS ARE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING APPROXIMATELY 2,000,000 METRIC TONS OF RAW STEEL AND 1,300,000 METRIC TONS OF ROLLED STEEL.
  • AS OF 1991, THE PRODUCTS AT THE HUNEDOARA COMPLEX CONSISTED OF HEAVY, MEDIUM, AND LIGHT SECTIONS AND STEEL ROD.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit OF THE FOUR MAIN STEELWORKS IN ROMANIA, HUNEDOARA AND RESITA ARE THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS IN THE CURRENT PROCESS OF RESTRUCTURING. THIS IS DUE TO THEIR HIGH DEGREE OF OPEN-HEARTH STEEL, THE ELEVATED EMPLOYMENT LEVEL, AND THE MONOLITHIC INDUSTRIAL STRUCTURE OF THE AREA. AS OF 1992, THERE WAS VERY LITTLE INFORMATION CONCERNING THE OPERATIONS AT THE HUNEDOARA STEEL COMPLEX.
