Comments on the geologic information

  • THE PARABURDOO OREBODY IS LOCATED IN THE CENTRAL SOUTHERN SECTION OF THE HAMERSLEY IRON PROVINCE, SOUTH OF MT. TOM PRICE. THERE ARE SIXTEEN OREBODIES IN ALL, STRETCHING A DISTANCE OF 24 KM ALONG THE PARABURDOO RIDGE. ORE OCCURS IN BOTH THE DALES GORGE AND JOFFRE MEMBERS OF THE BROCKMAN IRON FORMATION. HEMATITE ENRICHMENT HAS OCCURRED IN THE BEDS OF BANDED IRON-STONE TO THE ALMOST COMPLETE EXCLUSION OF THE ORIGINAL SILICEOUS MINERALS. HEMATITE IS THE PRINCIPAL IRON BEARING MINERAL WITHIN THE OREBODY. GOETHITE HAS BEEN FORMED BY GROUNDWATER LEACHING AND HYDRATION OF THE IRON OXIDES ON THE SURFACE OF THE ORE- BODY. MAJOR IMPURITIES IN THE OREBODY ARE SILICIA, ALUMINA AND PHOSPHORUS, ALL OF WHICH ARE CONTROLLED DURING MINING AND PROCESSING BY ORE GRADE CONTROL TECHNIQUES.
