Comments on the production information

  • THE PYSHMA PLANT WAS COMMISSIONED IN 1934 AND LAST MODERNISED IN 1979. THE KYSHTYM PLANT WAS BUILT IN 1908 AND PRODUCES 35-40,000 TPY THE SMELTING PROCESS CONSISTS OF FIRE AND ELECTRO-REFINING FOR BOTH REFINERIES, THE PYSHM AND THE KYSHTYM REFINERIES. THE PYSHM OR PYSHMA REFINERY ACCOUNTS FOR 89 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL CATHODE PRODUCTION OF THE TWO REFINERIES. THE PRODUCTS OF THESE TWO REFINERIES CONSISTS OF COPPER CATHODES AND WIREBARS. FOR THE PYSHMA REFINERY, ITS TOTAL PLANT POWER USAGE IS 420 KILOWATT-HOURS PER METRIC TON OF CATHODE PRODUCED. THE CATHODES ARE MELTED AND CAST INTO WIREBARS, BUT THERE IS ALSO SOME PRODUCTION OF COPPER POWDER, COPPER SULPHATE, AND COPPER FOIL. WIREBARS ARE RAILED TO THE KAMCABLE CABLE PRODUCTION PLANT AT KAMSKI. THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH HIGH CONCENTRATIONS OF DUST, WHICH IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FIRE REFINERY, AND HIGH LEVELS OF POLLUTANTS IN WASTE WATER DISCARDS. NO EXPANSIONS FOR THE REFINERIES IS YET PLANNED. AT PYSHMA, THERE IS A COPPER POWDER PLANT. AT KYSHTYM, THERE IS A COPPER FOIL PLANT, THE LARGEST OF ITS KIND IN THE USSR. 1989-450,000 TPY; 1991-300,000 TPY; 1993-240,000 TPY.
