  • WITH THE RESTRUCTURING OF GALATI, CALARASI, AND HUNEDOARA, THE RESITA STEEL WORKS WILL BE EXPECTED TO CUT BACK ON RAW STEEL PRODUCTION AND BE REQUIRED TO WORK AS EITHER ELECTRIC- MILLS OR AS RE-ROLLERS. ACCORDING TO 1991 CERNA REPORTS, THE RESITA OPERATIONS ARE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING APPROXIMATELY 1,000,000 METRIC TONS OF RAW STEEL AND 500,000 METRIC TONS OF ROLLED STEEL.
  • AS OF 1991, THE PRODUCTS AT THE RESITA WORKS CONSISTED OF HEAVY SECTIONS AND PLATE STEEL.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit AS OF 1992, THERE WAS VERY LITTLE INFORMATION CONCERNING THE OPERATIONS AT THE RESITA STEEL WORKS. OF THE FOUR MAIN STEEL WORKS IN ROMANIA, HUNEDOARA AND RESITA ARE THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS IN THE CURRENT PROCESS OF RESTRUCTURING. THIS IS DUE TO THE HIGH DEGREE OF OPEN-HEARTH STEEL, THE ELEVATED EMPLOYMENT LEVEL, AND THE MONOLITHIC INDUSTRIAL STRUCTURE OF THE AREA.
