Comments on the production information

  • PRODUCTION FROM THE MINE IS TO SUPPLY A 3 MILLION MT/YR PELLET PLANT IN MANZANILLO. CONCENTRATE PRODUCTION WILL VARY BECAUSE OF THE VARIANCE IN OREBODY GRADES. FOR MOST OF THE MINE LIFE THE CONCENTRATE QUANTITIES PRODUCED WILL NOT SUPPLY THE PELLET PLANT CAPACITY. THE ORE OCCURS AS INTRUSIVES OF THE KIRUNA AND MAGNITAYA TYPES. IT IS COMPOSED MAINLY OF MAGNETITE AND HEMATITE. THE OREBODY IS LOCATED ON STEEP SLOPES, AND IS CONTAINED IN 6 OREBODIES WHICH WILL BE MINED CONSECUTIVELY. THE OVERALL GRADE HAS BEEN VARIOUSLY REPORTED FROM 20-30 PCT TO 56 PCT. FOR THE EVALUATION THE GRADE IS ASSUMED AT 38.5 PCT. THE VARIANCE IN FEED GRADES FROM THE SEPARATE OREBODIES MAY BE MINIMIZED BY BLENDING. AFTER MAGNETIC BENEFICIATION THE SLURRY IS PIPED 45KM BY GRAVITY(-900M) TO THE ALZADA PELLET PLANT NEAR MANZANILLO, COLIMO. THE MINE HAS BEEN PRODUCING SINCE 1970, SO VIRTUALLY ALL CAPITAL COSTS HAVE BEEN DEPRECIATED. THE PELLET PLANT WAS CONSTRUCTED DURING THE PERIOD OF 1972-1978 AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF ABOUT $70 MILLION. PELLET PLANT OPERATING COSTS ARE ESTIMATED AT $7.84/MT. ALL COSTS ARE ESTIMATED FOR THE PURPOSE OF AVAILABILITY ANALYSIS.
  • IN ADDITION TO THE $3.75 MILLING COST, THERE IS A $7.84 SMELTING COST FOR PELLETIZATION OF PRODUCT A.
