  • DUE TO HIGH ENERGY COSTS AND LOW ALUMINUM PRICES, ALCAN HAS TEMPORARILY SHUT DOWN ONE POTLINE EQUIVALENT TO 27,000 MT/YR. IN 1992, WORLD AL PRICE WAS ABOUT 20% BELOW PRODUCTION COST. IN 1992, ENERGY ACCOUNTED FOR 35% OF TOTAL PRODUCTION COST.

ALL SMELTER OUTPUT CAPACITY DATA IS IN MT OF AL METAL TRANSPORTATION RECORDS 01 AND 02 ARE GENERAL DATA USED IN THE 1987 ALUMINUM AVAILABILITY STUDY. RECORDS 03 AND 04 ARE MORE SPACIFIC, THEY ARE USED IN THE NETWORK SUPPLY MODEL STUDY.
