Comments on the production information

  • MINING OPERATIONS AT THE LEVIKHIN MINE COMMENCED IN 1927. THE COST OF MINING ONE METRIC TON OF ORE IN 1991 WAS R41.50.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • RESERVES AT LEVIKHIN ARE SUFFICIENT FOR APPROXIMATELY A FURTHER 14 YEARS OF PRODUCTION, SUCH AS APPROXIMATELY 3.5 MILLION METRIC TONS. THE CUT-OFF GRADE IS 0.7 PERCENT COPPER.

Comments on other economic factors

  • ALL ORE IS DELIVERED BY RAIL TO THE KIROVGRAD CONCENTRATOR WHICH IS 30 KILOMETERS FROM THE MINE.
  • THE LEVIKHIN DEPOSIT IS MINED BY UNDERGROUND METHODS. THE MINE IS ACCESSED BY A NUMBER OF SHAFTS AND ORE IS EXTRACTED BY OPEN STOPING WITH SUB-LEVELS. NO BACKFILL IS USED. MOST CURRENT WORKING IS BETWEEN THE 280 AND THE 620 METER LEVELS AND THE MINE OPERATES ON A THREE SHIFT BASIS FOR 280 TO 300 DAYS PER YEAR. ORE RECOVERY IS 95 PERCENT AND DILUTION IS 20 PERCENT. TRACKED HAULAGE IS USED WITH ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES OF SOVIET ORIGIN. ALL OTHER MOBILE EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING SCRAPER WINCHES AND DRILLING RIGS, IS ALSO OF SOVIET ORIGIN.
