Comments on the geologic information

  • THE ORIGIN OF THE ORES IS ASCRIBED TO PRECIPITATION OF IRON FROM IRON SATURATED WATER TO FORM A COLLOIDAL GEL. THIS PROCESS WHICH TOOK PLACE UNDER ESTUARINE OR VERY MATURE FLUVIAL CONDITIONS, WAS AIDED BY BIOLOGICAL AGENCIES AND FAVOURABLE EH/PH CONDITIONS. PISOLITHS WERE THEN FORMED BY CONCRETIONARY PROCESSES AROUND CLASTIC AND ORGANIC NUCLEI. THREE DISTINCT HORIZONTAL ZONES ARE IDENTIFIABLE WITHIN THE PISOLITE SEQUENCE. THE MAIN OREBODY LIES BETWEEN A SURFACE WEATHERING ZONE AND THE BASAL CLAY-RICH ZONE. IT IS UP TO 40M THICK AND COMPRISES THE BULK OF THE MESA DEPOSITS. WITHIN THIS ZONE THE ORE IS A HIGH-GRADE, GOETHITE-HEMATITE PISOLITE WITH GOETHITE CEMENT AND MINOR CLAY IMPURITIES.

Comments on the production information

  • DEEPDALE IRON ORES RANK LOWER IN IRON GRADE THAN HIGH GRADE HEMATITES BEING PRODUCED ELSEWHERE IN THE PILBARA. HOWEVER, IN THE FORM OF SINTERING FINES, THE ORE HAS ESTABLISHED A MARKET SHARE IN SINTER PLANT BLENDS IN JAPAN AND TO SOME EXTENT IN EUROPE.
