Deposit PRESENT STATUS OF PROJECT(1979) IS NOT KNOWN. MOKAMBO NORTH AND SOUTH SPECIAL GRANTS HELD BY RHODESIAN SELECTION TRUST LTD. UP UNTIL ABOUT 1970 WHEN RST DECIDED IT WAS UNECONOMIC DUE TO "TECHNICAL SNAGS SUCH AS HIGH COSTS TO PUMP OUT WATER". GEOMIN OBTAINED EXPLORATION LICENSE IN 1970.AN EXPLORATION REPORT WAS PREPARED BY GEOMIN BY 1973 AND JOINT OPERATION BETWEEN MINDECO AND GEOMIN ANNOUNCED IN 1974. PLANS CALLED FOR 160 M DEEP SHAFT. LAST ARTICLE AVAILABLE(JAN.9,1976) SAID THAT OPER- ATION EXPECTED ON-STREAM BY FEBRUARY,1976 AT INITIAL CAPACITY OF 500 MT/DAY GRADUALLY INCREASING TO 4,000 MTPD ORE. ASSUME OUTPUT TO BE SENT TO RUMANIA AS REPAYMENT FOR LOAN. LOCATED 16 KM NE OF MUFULIRA.
